The Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation:

Office & Gallery Hours: 10 AM to 4 PM Tuesday- Saturday

Large groups are welcome! After hours appointments available for gallery exhibits.

OCAF is located at 34 School Street in Historic Watkinsville Georgia.

Mission: The Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation, Inc. (OCAF) promotes cultural arts and artists, and provides art education to the citizens of Oconee County and the northeast Georgia area.

OCAF is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charity that is not supported by tax dollars of any kind. All of our programs are open to the public regardless of what county they live in. OCAF members receive valuable discounts on classes, workshops and special events. Although membership is suggested it is not required.

This nuts n bolts intro to writing children's books covers toddler board books to middle grades nonfiction to teen dystopian fanasties. Gail will discuss such topices as how to read like a writer & write like a reader, "the Rules & the Writes" of constructing picture books, the categories of kids' books & how to create longer sotries for the shorter reader.

Back by popular demand! Charles Warnock, provides individual assistance and advice on acrylics in this open studio format class. This class is intended for students with painting experience.

Class is designed to help artists enhance their skills in painting portraits. All skill levels, from beginning to advanced, are welcomed. While painting from the live model, artists will employ various techniques for developing accurate proportions, and the proper placement of the model on the canvas. Participants will receive instructions on starting the portrait with a solid structural drawing done in monochromatic lines and tones on a stained canvas.

  • Beginner: designed for teaching the basics of playing the bagpipes
  • Intermediate A: for students that have completed the Beginning Class or able to read music and are working on embellishments and basic tunes on the practice chanter.
  • Intermediate B: for students that have completed the Beginning Class and Intermediate Class A or have required skills and are ready to play the bagpipes. 



Sapelo Island Photography Workshop

Beginner to Intermediate Ceramics Wheel Throwing

If you have ever wondered if you would enjoy the art of pottery or have tried wheel throwing but want to improve & expand your skills, this is the class for you!

In this course for beginner to intermediate potters, Amanda will teach basic wheel skills as well as new techniques for function, surface design, and style for those who already know the basics. Students will work at their own pace in this easy-going studio atmosphere.

Have you wanted to try your hand at pottery but were a bit intimidated at the thought of wheelthrowing? Have you tried or mastered wheelthrowing and want to expand your skills into other forms of pottery building? Handbuilding might be just the thing for you!

In this hands-on class Amanda will teach basic skills which involve slump and hump molds, making pinch pots, coiling, scoring/slipping, rolling slabs and extruding shapes. Jenna will share ideas and show examples of things you might like to try such as textured tiles, animal sculptures, butter dishes, soap dishes, etc. These techniques will enable each student to form the clay into their vision.

Explores how to use value contrasts & color mixtures. Includes daily demonstrations, time to practice new skills and lots of individual help from Kie.

Painting Birds in Watercolor:
February 5 - 19, 2018 Class Open for Registration
It is not what you paint, it is how you paint it. In the design & composition class students will learn techniques to turn ordinary subjects into extraordinary paintings. Demonstrations will be given in watercolor but other media can be used.
